Cloud Monday - The Ascent - Part 2 - The Journey to Grinder

Today's Cloud Monday is part 2 of playing The Ascent from Neon Giant and Curve Digital Publishing. I'm playing this on a launch model Japanese PS4.

In part 2, the main goal was to get to Grinder, so for most of this video that's what is happening. there are a couple of side quests, several battles, and a couple of deaths. but all this happens so i can get to Grinder.

Much like part 1, https://youtu.be/gISw0NS3hf4, the streaming experience from PlayStation Plus Premium was near perfect. and like that video, the only issues i had happened at the end. The game has it's own small issues like stuttering, which i assume is the game loading stuff in the background, and text being too small. But as a streaming experience, across both days i feel that it was really great. up there with some of the best i've experienced so far. But, it's checkpointing system isn't perhaps the most suited to being a streaming game.

I do recommend this as a solid choice for streaming from PlayStation Plus Premium. personally, i quite enjoyed the story and world in the game as well as most of the gameplay. But there are still issues with the game even tho it came out over a year ago and by this point will they ever be fixed. Maybe on PS5 they aren't an issue. but i'm playing on a PS4 and this is what i experienced. it's checkpoint system could mean a lot of back tracking if the service kicked you off for a bad connection. all that combined is why i say it's a solid choice, but not as perfect as Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness was in Part 1 https://youtu.be/4acBC6x5XXI and Part 2 https://youtu.be/oUmQIvOuOY0

Cloud Monday - The Ascent - Part 1 - A Near Perfect Streaming Experience From PlayStation Plus

Today's Cloud Monday is part 1 of playing The Ascent from Neon Giant and Curve Digital Publishing. I'm playing this on a launch model Japanese PS4.

Apart from a little hiccup near the end of the video, it was a great streaming experience. if anything, it was the game itself that was causing gameplay issues than it being streamed from the PlayStation Plus Premium service.

The game looks stunning, there's soo much detail in the densely packed environments. even on a PS4.But, the in-game text is simply tiny. there was a moment i had to get out of my chair, go to the screen to try and read it. even right up close, i was guessing what it said rather than knowing. the other noticeable issues with the game were screen tearing, stuttering, and pop-in. but those are minor issues that don't really get in the way of gameplay. the small text got in the way so when i play it again for part 2, i will check to see if there's an in-game menu to make the text bigger.

Playing the game was fun. with the world being so dense, it was easy to get feel a part of it. especially with the UI off in the corners not getting in the way. it's the first game i've played where i've actually felt like i wanted a bigger TV, i currently have a 32 inch, and a PS5 because i wanted to be more immersed in a game world. this first hour was enjoyable and the game's story began to be revealed too. this makes me excited to play it for part 2, and who knows maybe i'll play it more!

Curve Studios Announce Move To PS Vita And PS4 Due To Lack Of Indie Support With Xbox One

Curve Studios have announced that due to the lack of independent support recently announced from Microsoft and the Xbox One, they will focus on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Curve Studios had this to say:

“XBLA was a trailblazer last generation, so it’s sad to see Microsoft not announcing dedicated support for independent developers on the Xbox One.” said Managing Director Jason Perkins, who started his own game development career as an independent developer on the Commodore 64.

Jason added, “Refusing to concentrate on easier submissions and discoverability leaves the way clear for Sony to capture the most innovative market in gaming right now.”

Jason Perkins said: “Sony’s show of support for developers, including showing independent releases not only front and centre on their storefront but also during the PlayStation 4 reveal is creating a more open, co-operative market for independent games to enter the living room on a level playing field.”

Curve Studios have revealed Thomas Was Alone has been downloaded over 200,000 times on PS3 and PS Vita and they are currently working on Jasper Bryne's Lone Survivor for PS3 and PS Vita.

Curve Studios Announce Explodemon! Comes Out On The PSN On The 8th And 9th February For $9.99/£7.99/€9.99

Curve Studios have announced Explodemon! is coming out on the PS3 PSN in the USA on 8th February and across the EU on 9th February for $9.99/£7.99/€9.99.

Press Release

LONDON, ENGLAND – Hold on to your hairpieces, because retro-inspired action platforming masterpiece Explodemon will be exploding onto the PlayStation store on February 8th (SCEA territories) and February 9th (SCEE territories).

Not only that, but it’ll be available at the amazingly value-tastic price of US$9.99, 9.99 Euros and, for our fellow UK compatriots, £7.99.

Featuring 12 gigantic levels - each stuffed with secret rooms, puzzles and collectibles galore - and well over eight hours of gameplay, Explodemon is a perfect post-Christmas treat without any of the wallet-guilt. Which is, like, totally a thing that science says is real.

If you don’t know about it already – and, if so, consider yourself chastised – Explodemon is a high-octane explosive action platformer for PlayStation 3, distributed exclusively through the PlayStation Store.

Influenced by classic Japanese games from the golden era of the SNES, players use Explodemon’s self-destructive nature to combat enemies and fly through the air, all the while solving a huge variety of physics-based puzzles (and, naturally, causing incalculable collateral damage).

When the peaceful planet of Nibia is attacked by the malicious Vortex forces, the fate of the star system is thrust into the one pair of hands it shouldn’t be: the malfunctioning Guardian robot Explodemon. His comic quest to repel the onslaught and restore peace will take him across three distinct planets over twelve levels, with new abilities and gameplay mechanics introduced throughout.

Explodemon is rated E by the ESRB, 7+ by PEGI (6+ in Portugal), 12 in Germany and G in Australia/New Zealand.

Curve Studios Announce Explodemon! Has Been Delayed, Now Coming To PSN In January 2011

Curve Studios have announced that Explodemon! has been delayed on the PS2 PSN. Explodemon! will now come out in January 2011. Curve Studios do apologise for the delay.

Press Release

LONDON, ENGLAND – Curve Studios today announced that Explodemon!, its self-published action platformer for PlayStation 3, will see the slightest of slight delays, and will now launch on the PlayStation Network in January 2011.

Approaching a senior member of the company for an explanation behind the delay, a slightly panicked man – who asked to not be named – spluttered “It was like that when I found it!” before running away, arms windmilling.

Attempts to retroactively correct this outburst to something more professional proved futile, but we understand it had something to do with ‘last-minute fixes’ and ‘remaining unflinchingly resolute in our desire to only release the most awesome game possible.’

In short: we’re sorry! But it’ll really be worth it. Promise.
