Press Release
San Francisco – March 20, 2013: Mind
Candy - the games studio behind global kids phenomenon Moshi
Monsters™ - today announces it has signed leading UK indie
developer, Sumo Digital to produce its third Nintendo DS™
title for launch in the UK, US and Australia in Q4 2013.
Sumo Digital Ltd is an independent game development studio based in Sheffield, UK. The highly regarded studio has received much acclaim over the last ten years for the consistent quality of its games, most notably with the Sonic All-Stars franchise for SEGA, The BAFTA nominated Nike+ Kinect Training for Microsoft and the BAFTA winning Doctor Who Adventures for the BBC, amongst numerous other successful titles for a wide variety of game publishers.
The Sumo team will produce a Moshi Monsters themed platform-based action-adventure game for Nintendo DS and 3DS consoles.
The new game will be Mind Candy’s 3rd Nintendo DS/3DS title, following the success of its two previous releases, Moshi Monsters™: Moshlings Zoo, which topped the UK DS charts for a record breaking 23 consecutive weeks andMoshi Monsters™: Moshlings Theme Park.
The game will be aimed at a core demographic of 9-12 years but it expected to have broad appeal.
Andy Matjaszek, Senior Global Marketing Manager at Mind Candy commented:
“We are hugely excited to be partnering with SUMO on our most ambitious DS game to date. The game will be very stylised, action heavy and aspirational so will hopefully delight our fanbase and beyond!” He continued, “Sumo have proven their expertise with the likes of Sega All-Stars and we’re excited to help champion the excellent talent within the UK games development market.”
Sean Millard, Creative Director of Sumo Digital:
“The Moshi franchise is a really exciting project to be working on. It’s such a successful brand and developing a class-leading game based on the Moshi characters and their world is a fantastic opportunity. Mind Candy is enormously supportive of the things we want to do to develop the Moshi universe and it’s great to be involved in such a truly creative partnership. The game’s going to be great – not just for the existing audience but for gamers new to Moshi Monsters as well.”
