November 8, 2012 - Ikariam, one of the most
successful browser games ever -- with more than 51 million registered
players -- is going mobile this month. Developed by leading
German-based company Gameforge, Ikariam is a
civilization strategy game with a successful history in the
browser-based sphere.
Ikariam's upcoming
transition to mobile devices is set to create an optimum experience,
utilizing the many capabilities of the iPad. In addition, the tablet
version will allow players to get the full range of functions that
they already know and love from the browser version, but with a
touchscreen experience.
"Ikariam stands
out with its easy accessibility, appealing graphics and complex game
content," said Sebastian Meyer, Product Director at Gameforge.
"As developers and publishers, creating a mobile version
of Ikariam was the next logical step for us and we

Launched in early
2008, Ikariam is now played in more than 60 countries
and is available in 38 different languages, allowing players to dive
into the ancient island from all over the world. With the new iPad
launch, players will now be able to access the game on the go.
As the market for
digital entertainment, and the mobile game sector in particular,
grows, more and more users are playing video games the go. According
to analysts at Digi-Capital, the entire digital games market will
reach a turnover of $82 billion by 2015 -- this corresponds to an
increase of a full 14 percent from 2011 to 2015. Online and mobile
games in particular are named as growth drivers, which by then, will
make up 50 percent (or $41 billion) of the entire market.
