What Have You Played This Week?

Managed to play a lot more this week. I even got back the game that killed my old PlayStation 3, for those who are new my launch PlayStation 3 died when I tried to play IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. This is a rented game which also means i've not played much recently as i've been waiting to get it back from Sony. It got to me when Sony said it would, and I'm determined to finish it quickly as my rent games list on Swapgame just keeps getting longer.

Football Manager 10 – PC – well finished 2nd in my second season in the premiership. Again my team is getting stronger, but with Annan its taking time as I still can't offer high wages, but thankfully a new stadium and improved training/youth stuff is making it a bit easier.

Uncharted 2– PS3 – I only played the online part of the game. Its plenty of fun, and the maps have soo much to offer. Thankfully there are loads of people playing the game, but I have come across a few with dodgy connections and in some games people just seemed to be dropped.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey – PS3 – Yep, I got the game back that killed my last PlayStation 3. I got much further this time, getting through the tutorial fine. Graphically its fairly impressive and it makes great use of vibration in the Dual Shock 3. there appears to be no one playing it online, so i've focused on the single player stuff. The campaign is straightforward, complete tasks to continue and unlock sutff. Ai for the most part is decent in campaign, but there are times when the Ai is either too good or not good enough. It's fun to play and educational, for those unfamiliar with air warfare in World War II. It'll take a while to complete, but the trophies are unlocking regularly and the unlocked stuff in game has some incentive to continue.

Halo Reach – Beta – Xbox 360 – I played a fair bit of the Beta, playing slayer matches, and ultimately it feels a lot like Halo. Some of the control changes took an age to get used to, like using the RB to melee and not B, but ultimately it does control well. Graphically there is a noticeable improvement, but not perhaps as big as an improvement as it needs, especially when you compare it to games like Killzone 2. the new loadouts do make it interesting, but only when you get used to using them. I use the jet pack a lot to shoot from above and land on top of them where I melee the opponent. This usually kills them. Others are using the cloak great in sniping positions. The defensive one is pretty hit and miss I find with people either using it or coming across someone using it. I have no idea what its like to talk to people with this game. Like most online games, I do not use a headset...especially on the 360, but from what people are saying on podcasts and such...ot certainly doesn't sound like things have improved.

Bookworm Adventures – PC – my parents had a cleanup and found this game. I had played Bookworm a long time ago and thought i'd give it a try. I think this is a brilliant game. It is shown up by its age, in terms of graphics, but the gameplay is simply addictive and fun. Its a great RPG and you can see how games like this spawned bigger games like Puzzle Quest.

what have you been playing this week? feel free to add your weeks gaming selection in the comments, or you can comment on the game i played this week.

Nintendo Reveal Wii Party, A New Marquee Party Game For The Wii

During Nintendo's financial report, they revealed a new Wii title currently in development. Wii Party is being developed with the aim of becoming the first new marquee party game for the Wii from Nintendo since Mario Party 8 was released in the Summer of 2007. Wii Party is currently set for release during this fiscal year, meaning it could come out anytime between now and March 2011.

Wii Party is being designed in a way so that every player with a Wii can find a game to play. Mii's are used as players characters, and the game features games that can be played alone, in pairs, or in groups. there will be a game play mode called Living Party that uses only the Wiimote. Nintendo have released screenshots and the Logo for this Game. the screenshots appear to be in-game. the Menu screenshot is in Japanese, but a translation has been provided if you click on the Speech bubble.

It’s called, “Wii Party”.
As you know, “Wii something” are the titles that we use only with software that Nintendo has developed exclusively for Wii with the aim to make them marquee titles for Wii. We are developing this game with the aim to make it a marquee party game for Wii.

The developers are spending significant time for this title so that they can include elements that are must-haves in a party game as well as making sure that adequate volume of game play are available. We are developing it with the intent that every Wii player will be able to find a game that can be enjoyed. In a game play mode called “Living Party”, there are unique game play only available with the Wii Remote.

In this software, Miis are used as the players’ characters. According to our own survey, we know that more than 160 million Miis have been created by our customers in Japan, the U.S. and six countries in Europe alone, In Japan, thanks to the popularity of the Tomodachi Collection software, an increasing number of Japanese are taking to their Miis. In a sense, it is a natural move for your Miis and your friends’ and family members’ Miis to show up in a Wii party games.

Nintendo has not launched a marquee party game since Mario Party 8, launched in summer 2007. However, since Wii is usually being played by several people at once and the global sales of Mario Party have reached 7.6 million units, a party title has great potential.
This is one of the titles which, we hope, will play an important role for this fiscal year.
