2K Games Announce XCOM For The Xbox 360 And PC

2K Games have announced XCOM for the Xbox 360 and PC. This is a re-imagining of the XCOM Series and is being developed at the 2K Marin studios, where BioShock 2 was developed. 2K Games have revealed that the game will be in the first person perspective.

XCOM Puts you in the shoes of an FBI Agent, tasked with identifying and eliminating the threat from an unknown enemy. This re-imagining continues XCOM's High Stake odds, putting you in charge against the unknown threat in combat experiences that'll show ingenuity and the frailty of humans.

Press Release

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)-- Apr 14, 2010 2K Games announced today that XCOM®, the re-imagining of one of gaming’s most storied and beloved franchises, is currently in development at 2K Marin, the studio behind the multi-million unit selling BioShock® 2. Currently in development exclusively for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC, XCOM combines the strategic core of the groundbreaking franchise with a suspense-filled narrative and distills it into a tense and unique first-person shooter experience.

“With BioShock 2, the team at 2K Marin proved themselves as masters of first-person, suspenseful storytelling, and with XCOM they will re-imagine and expand the rich lore of this revered franchise,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Players will explore the world of XCOM from an immersive new perspective and experience firsthand the fear and tension of this gripping narrative ride.”

XCOM is the re-imagining of the classic tale of humanity’s struggle against an unknown enemy that puts players directly into the shoes of an FBI agent tasked with identifying and eliminating the growing threat. True to the roots of the franchise, players will be placed in charge of overcoming high-stake odds through risky strategic gambits coupled with heart-stopping combat experiences that pit human ingenuity – and frailty – against a foe beyond comprehension. By setting the game in a first-person perspective, players will be able to feel the tension and fear that comes with combating a faceless enemy that is violently probing and plotting its way into our world.

XCOM is not yet rated by the ESRB. For more information on XCOM please visit www.XCOM.com.

Nintendo Announce They Have Won Thier Appeal In The Anascape Suit

Nintendo have announced that they have won the appeal against Anascape. Nintendo had been accused by Anascape of patent infringement. in 2008, the jury found that neither the Wii Remote or Nunchuck controller infringed on the patent, but they did find that the Wii Classic Controller, the WaveBird, and GameCube Controllers infringed on the Patent. Nintendo appealed this decision and have won this appeal.

Anascape had also sued Microsoft for the same thing but Microsoft settled. The reason why Nintendo won its appeal was because Sony's original Dual Shock controller, from the Playstation 1, was found to have existed before Anascape added the specific patents to their designs, which they accused Nintendo And Microsoft of copying.

From Engadget

Press Release

REDMOND, Wash., April 13, 2010 – Today the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that none of Nintendo's video game controllers infringe on a patent asserted by Anascape, Ltd.

Nintendo had been accused by Anascape, Ltd., of infringing on U.S. Patent No. 6,906,700. The case was tried before a jury in the Eastern District of Texas in May 2008. The jury found that neither the motion-sensing Wii Remote™ controller, nor the Nunchuk™ controller, infringes on the patent. However, the jury found that the Classic Controller™ for the Wii™ console, and the WaveBird™ and standard controllers for Nintendo GameCube™ did infringe on the patent. Today's decision, however, completely reversed the jury's findings of infringement.

"In 2008, the jury determined that the Wii Remote and Nunchuk did not infringe," said Nintendo of America General Counsel Rick Flamm. "Today the Federal Circuit's ruling confirmed that none of Nintendo's controllers infringe. We appreciate that our position has been vindicated."

For reference, the case is Anascape, Ltd. v. Nintendo of America Inc. and the citation is 2008-1500.
