Press Release
And here is the rest REDMOND, Wash., July 12, 2010 – One of the biggest games ever to launch for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems has arrived in North America, giving U.S. consumers a chance to experience the hand-held gaming phenomenon that has already attracted more than 4.2 million players in Japan. With unique features that let players customize characters and connect with friends via a local wireless connection to take on epic adventures, DRAGON QUEST IX®: Sentinels of the Starry Skies™, developed by Square Enix Co., Ltd., gives people of all ages, backgrounds and gaming experience levels a remarkable way to combine imaginative game play and social fun.
Players begin by creating fully customized heroes to guide on their quest, choosing from different face, hair and even eye color. As they journey forth, characters are further developed and enhanced as they choose from more than 1,000 items and pieces of equipment, change jobs and abilities, and join up with new customizable companions. Using a local wireless connection, up to four players within range of each other can band together at any time to explore mysterious dungeons and tangle with fearsome monsters throughout a spellbinding world of adventure.
In addition to a wireless multiplayer mode, DRAGON QUEST IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skiesincludes an interactive Tag Mode that allows players to keep the game active even while their Nintendo DS system is stored in their pocket, purse or backpack. When two players come within range of one another, Tag Mode enables them to wirelessly – and automatically – exchange character information, customized greetings and treasure maps. These treasure maps allow players to find otherwise inaccessible dungeons called grottoes featuring special boss monsters and even rare items.
"There's no limit to the fun of DRAGON QUEST IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "The ability to create your own characters and enjoy the game with friends makes every adventure as unique as players themselves. Better yet, the Nintendo DS family of systems makes the game easy for people to enjoy anytime, anywhere."
Interacting with different characters will unfold the story and point players toward their next quest. Players might be asked to find a missing item or to defeat a monster in a particular way. All quests come with a reward, which might be anything from a rare item to a new, unlocked occupation. During their journey, players will encounter mighty monsters in fast-paced battles. The more foes players defeat, the stronger they become. Players who get the urge to upgrade their characters can visit an in-game online shop (broadband Internet access required) to acquire new items using in-game currency they have collected while playing. The selection of items changes daily. Players can also connect online to download new weekly quests for about a year from the launch of the game, each with its own challenges and rewards.

Scans from the latest CoroCoro magazine have made their way onto the internet. the magazine revealed 7 new Pokémon as well as new characters and specific features unique to each Pokémon game. The names of the Pokémon and characters are their Japanese names. no English names have been released as yet. Unfortunately, details are a bit light on many of the Pokémon and characters.
[New updated information for the Pokémon, Kibago, Koromori, and Minezumi have been released.]
Wargle is a Normal/Flying type Pokémon who's ability is Keen Eye. It learns a new Move called Free Fall. Free Fall is a 2 turn move, the first turn has Wargle picking up an enemy Pokémon whilst the second move has Wargle throwing the Pokémon to the ground.
Rankurusu is a Psychic Type Pokémon, and the green one in the picture above. one if its abilities is Magic Guard. This Pokémon is exclusive to one of the games but which one hasn't been announced yet.

Makomo, the woman in the picture, is friends with Professor Araragi.
The Girl in the top picure is called Beru, whilst the guy in the bottom picture is called Cheren. They are both friends of the games main character.
The Final new character revealed is a guy called N.
These pictures show areas unique to each game. the first picture shows Black City and the second picture shows White Forest. its unknown which game each area is unique to.
The Magazine scans have also revealed that the 3 on 3 battles do have some strategy to them as setting up you Pokémon's formation will be important as it effects who gets hit.
The game also has a new feature called "Passing By," which connects your DS automatically to players near by, that lets you help other players.
"High Link" is a building which you can go to to get missions to help other players in the game.
A DSi only feature is "TV Transceiver." this allows you to chat to people who you have exchanged friend codes with, up to 4 people locally or 2 via Wifi.

Tweets Of The Week
What Have You Played This Week?
I got a lot more in this week. Well it maynot look like i've played a lot but I spent most my time playing Transformers: War For Cybertron. The site was fairly busy but I do feel i've played a good amount this week. Next week I'll try to finish Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2, the game i'm currently renting.
Football Manager 10 – PC – After a poor start to the season I had a very big rally just before Christmas and ended up finishing 3rd...and promoted to League 1. at the moment i'm still getting the team ready for my first season in league 1. I'm not aiming to get promoted as I need to build a squad for the championship as well as get a bigger stadium and facilities.
Transformers: War For Cybertron – PS3 – I Managed to finish both the Autobot and Decepticon campaigns over the week. I'm a huge fan of Transformers and have seen many different series over the years, so playing through both campaigns was very interesting seeing how they fit into the grand Transformers story. What's clear, by the end of the game, is that no one series is dominant. There are Transformers from a few different series in the game, and the overall story is mostly from G1 but with popular aspects from other series. For me the story was great and there is a great shout out in the credits that's worth waiting for.
Playing the game though was something else. The gameplay is fine, very accessible, and it flows very well. But technical issues really started to be annoying. Loading times are long, even after the 5gb install, maybe around 10-15 seconds. But on several occasions the game would stop and load mid-level. The game runs on the unreal engine and it shows. Sometimes there is no texture pop-in, but on other times i've watched a cut scene and the textures never loaded. I'm still having multiplayer issues, where it says there's people online...i go to play a game only to find the game says there's no-one online. Having played the game several times now, a new annoying is the load on the main menu. The game checks the install data and it takes a while to check the 5gb. Perhaps the most annoying issue was with the dialogue in the game. there's nothing wrong with the voice work but i do believe i missed over a quarter of all dialogue spoken in the game. its hard to describe why it happens but regularly in the game, characters are talking to each other but fade in and out. sometimes its cause i'm not near the person talking but even moving near them doesn't solve the issue. to try to hear it i basically had to not move the character or the camera but even this didn't work all the time. the worst issue was the final boss batter for the Autobots. as its hard i had to do it a few times and yet i heard hardly nothing of what was said. Whole plot points, battle tips, what/where to go were missed completely.
For me the story is brilliant and the gameplay is also great, but having played the game a lot, completing the single player story and getting all characters online lvl 10/11, the technical issues really do start to become an issue and can detract from the game by the end. its easy to see why its marked soo high and low by reviewers.
Dissidia Final Fantasy – PSP – this was the only game I got for my birthday I hadn't played as yet. What's clear from the off is the game looks amazing. The cutscenes are very impressive and the in-game graphics are some of the best on the system. It is soon clear that there is more to the game than just fighting as Square Enix have added interesting RPG elements to the game as well as an interesting way to create items. I'm not that far to comment on the story, but so far its competent and explains good enough why all these Final Fantasy Characters are together. The fighting works very well on the PSP. The controls are simple but offer a lot of depth to gameplay. The levels are also great and its easy to play the same level several times and use it differently every time. The game slowly introduces the RPG elements and explains them fairly well as you unlock them, plus there's a help button. This game has been clearly designed to be played either in short burst or a lot in one go and it succeeds in both.
Did you manage to play more games than I have over the week, or do you have any comments on my experiences or questions about the games i've played? If you do, feel free to add them in the comments section.
