Press Release

MONTREAL --(Business Wire)-- Oct 09, 2009 EA Montreal, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS), today announced that renowned film composer Tyler Bates will be creating the impactful score for the highly anticipated third person co-op shooter ARMY OF TWO™: THE 40TH DAY. The sought-after composer, best known for his work on the blockbuster films 300 and Watchmen, is crafting an immersive score that will highlight the epic co-operative battles gamers and their friends will face in the first major videogame release of 2010.

“Set in Shanghai in the middle of a major disaster, ARMY OF TWO: THE 40TH DAY dials up the action through a series of powerful scenes where players have to work together as a team to survive and escape the city,” said Lewis James, Audio Director at EA Montreal. “Tyler examined every part of the game and how players will move through the world to craft a score that truly represents their actions and the chaos unfolding around them.”

“THE 40TH DAY is one of the most intense games I’ve seen,” said Tyler Bates. “The setting, characters and action in the game provided me the perfect backdrop to create an equally intense and dramatic score that complements the gameplay.”

With more than 50 films and 15 years experience, Bates is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after composers. In addition to Watchmen and 300, he has scored hit films such as The Day the Earth Stood Still, Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween 2, and Showtime's hit comedy series "Californication”.

“Tyler Bates’ score for THE 40TH DAY is not only a stellar addition to this tradition but takes the ARMY OF TWO franchise to a whole new level,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing. “Most of all, our collaboration with a composer of his caliber furthers EA's continued commitment to creating the most groundbreaking new soundtracks in the entertainment industry.”

In this sequel to the multi-million selling 2008 break-out hit, private military contractors, Salem and Rios must fight their way through Shanghai to survive a carefully orchestrated series of catastrophes that are dragging the massive city to the brink of ruin. Now, the ARMY OF TWO are trapped and must work as a team to survive relentless enemy assaults and escape the city collapsing around them.

ARMY OF TWO: THE 40TH DAY has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI. The game will ship on January 12, 2010 in North America and January 8, 2010 in Europe. The game will be available for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable).

Sony Europe Explain Why The UK/EU Do Not Have PSN Games Or DLC Available To Buy From Online Retailers

I asked a Sony Europe Representative is Sony had plans to have games available to buy from Online retailers like Sony America has done with Amazon.com. i also asked if there were plans for such a move in the future. this was their response.

"The reason we haven't done anything similar to SCEA and Amazon is due to them already offering product specific download vouchers and have done for some time, where as we have only just launched currency cards and not product specific. Therefore there are no plans at the moment to do something similar, but that does not mean it will change in the future. "

as you can see, for Sony America it was a natural progression of their existing deal. For Sony Europe, it sounds like their relationship with Amazon.co.uk is still early, but as they say, things can change in the future and they didn't seem negative towards such an idea.

Press Release

Guildford, UK – 9th October 2009 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announces the development of FLIPS™, an innovative new book range created for the Nintendo DS™. FLIPS has been designed to give children of all ages a fun new way to read their favorite books. EA has worked with some of the UK’s leading publishers of children's books and magazines, including Egmont and Penguin Publishing, to bring modern classic titles from critically acclaimed authors such as Cathy Cassidy, Eoin Colfer, Enid Blyton, and the various writers from the popular boys series, ‘Too Ghoul for School’ to the DS. Each FLIPS title features multiple books and the first four titles will be exclusively released on Nintendo DS in the UK on the 4th December 2009.

Titles include:
Enid Blyton (Egmont) - The Enchanted Wood®, The Magic Faraway Tree, The Folk of the Faraway Tree, Enchanted World® – Petal and the Eternal Bloom, Enchanted World – Melody and the Enchanted Harp, Enchanted World – Silky and the Rainbow Feather
Cathy Cassidy (Penguin)– Scarlett, Angel Cake, Sundae Girl, Shine on Daizy Star, GingerSnaps, Driftwood
Eoin Colfer (Penguin) - Artemis Fowl, Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incident, Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code, Artemis Fowl and the Opal Deception, Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony, Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox
Too Ghoul For School (Egmont) - Silent but Deadly, The In-Spectres Call, Ghoul Dinners, The Bubonic Builders, Attack of the Zombie Nits, School Spooks Day, French Fright, Terror In Cubical Four

FLIPS uses the DS touch screen and stylus to enable children to read and interact by combining the world of storytelling with quizzes and references to characters, encouraging greater concentration and incentive to finish every chapter. Within the books, links appear to give the reader a unique way of interacting with the story and enhancing their experience.

“FLIPS is a brilliant way of getting children into reading who may love their DS but may not normally pick up a book,” commented Cally Poplak, Director, Egmont Press. “At Egmont we are passionate about bringing stories to life for children, so the development of new platforms for reading are incredibly exciting for us. We are proud to be at the heart of this innovation and thrilled to be a part of this first collection bringing authors such as Enid Blyton to the digital world, and encouraging more children to take up reading for pleasure rather than seeing it purely as part of their homework.”

“FLIPS offers a great way to bring books to life on a platform that is incredibly popular with kids,” said Keith Ramsdale, VP and General Manager, UK, Ireland and Nordics for Electronic Arts. “With multiple books on each game card, FLIPS makes a great value Christmas gift for children of all ages”

"Our job as publishers is to bring authors' work to as many readers as possible and we are increasingly looking at platforms other than the book to do this,” said Jeremy Ettinghausen, Penguin Digital Publisher. “So it's incredibly exciting to be working with Electronic Arts to bring some of the best writing for children to one of the bestselling devices in the world."
“I’m over the moon to see my stories and characters brought to life on the Nintendo DS with EA’s new FLIPS range,” said Eoin Colfer, author of the award-winning Artemis Fowl series. “Everyone knows that reading improves literacy skills. I have two children who are DS fanatics and cannot wait for the FLIPS to arrive, so EA might finally get them reading my books!”
Each FLIPS title featuring six to eight books will be sold separately with an RRP of £24.99.
