Square Enix - Lawsuit Launched against French Distributor For Illegally Selling Square Enix Properties – Press Release

Square Enix has begun legal proceedings against a French distributor called SAKURA. They alledge that SAKURA has been selling merchandise which are counterfeits of Square Enix trademarks, like Final Fantasy ans Full Metal Alchemist. An Injunction is being seeked to prevent further sells of the disputed products.

Press Release

PARIS, FRANCE (July 2, 2009) — Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. and Square Enix Co., Ltd. (collectively “Square Enix”), announced today that they had filed, on May 28, 2009 (French local time), a lawsuit in the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris against la société SAKURA (“SAKURA”), a Paris-based company specializing in the importation/distribution of merchandise based on Japanese-produced content. Square Enix denounces SAKURA for the commercialization of products counterfeiting Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY® and FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST® trademarks and copyrights to the FINAL FANTASY series.

The defendant SAKURA sells its products at a retail location going under the tradename of “KONCI” in Paris as well as via its Internet site, which Square Enix suspects of marketing pirated products all over the EU territory. In this lawsuit, Square Enix is seeking an injunction against the importation and distribution of pirated products, and compensation for potential damages arising from SAKURA’s activities. The case is currently pending.

“We are actively pursuing those who commit intellectual property infringement against our company,” said Yasuhiko Hasegawa, Square Enix’s General Counsel. “In parallel with our campaign against the manufacturing, distribution and sale of counterfeits, we will continue to aggressively exercise our intellectual property rights, including the filing of lawsuits, to prevent any infringement of our rights involving the unauthorized use of our games, music, movies, images, and other elements protected by intellectual property law.”

While Square Enix will continue to take decisive action against infringement of its intellectual property rights, Square Enix will keep bringing its official merchandise to its fans in the European market. Zynga have announced that Mafia Wars, celebrating it's 1 year anniversary, has now more than 4 million daily users. to celebrate the anniversary, Mafia Wars now has a new location, Cuba, New Level Cap, and new Jobs, Armour and Vehicles.

Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- Jul 02, 2009 Zynga, the largest developer of social games, today announced the one year anniversary of social gaming’s most popular crime-based game, Mafia Wars. Since its launch in June 2008, Mafia Wars has grown to more than four million daily active users; in the last three months, alone, the game has doubled the number of daily players.

In celebration of Mafia Wars’ one year anniversary, Zynga also launched Cuba, an entirely new destination, and extends the amount of time players can enjoy Mafia Wars. Players who have reached the rank of “Consigliere” (level 35) can leave New York City and cross the Cuban border which has been outside the reach of the Mafia’s influence for almost 50 years. Now with Cuba as a destination, players can expand their influence and increase their power with new loot, weapons, businesses, collections and achievements. Cuba offers more than 100 levels of additional jobs, items, a unique property system, and opens up a wealth of new opportunities including:
40+ new jobs to carry out
52 brand new weapons, armor and vehicles
Four businesses that can be purchased and upgraded

“Mafia Wars is on its way to becoming a cult classic,” said Bill Mooney, executive producer, MMO Studios, Zynga. “We have the most dedicated and loyal players who have made the game a hit and we want to thank them by extending the game in a dynamic destination that makes the game unique and challenging.”

The Mafia Wars franchise has reached key milestones during its first year. The iPhone version which launched in April contains rich, high-quality graphics and interface including original animations and sounds, creating a fun and addictive gaming experience. Mafia Wars was also recently voted Best Game of the Year in the Webby People’s Voice Awards where more than 50,000 votes were cast by people around the world for their favorite sites, video, and ads. Additionally, Mafia Wars has garnered over two million fans on its Facebook Page making it the highest ranked page. EA - Battlefield 1943 Coming 8th July on XBLM and July 9th on PSN

EA Have announced the release date of Battlefield 1943. It'll be released on Xbox Live Marketplace from July 8th for 1200MS Points. the Playstation 3 release is July 9th for £9.99 ($15)

Press Release

Guildford, UK – July 2, 2009 – DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio (NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced that Battlefield 1943™ will be available on July 8th on Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace and July 9th on the PlayStation®Network. Battlefield 1943 is an all-new download-only action game that brings DICE’s first-class vehicular warfare to gamers for just £9.99, or 1200 MS Points.

Battlefield 1943 is a critically acclaimed First-Person Shooter (FPS) multiplayer game that puts players in the middle of a dogfight on land, sea or in the skies. The game introduces two thrilling new modes that can be played across four classic Battlefield tropical WWII maps: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Coral Sea. These maps are inspired by the award winning Battlefield 1942™ game, but have been redesigned and reengineered using the DICE destructible Frostbite™ engine which takes down walls, blockades and cover spots, leaving players with almost nowhere to hide. The game delivers endless hours of social online gameplay for extraordinary value.

The Coral Sea map will be unlocked as part of a worldwide community challenge, where players will work together to reach 43million kills on both Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network. To help gamers reach that goal, up to 24 players can play together online in countless matches. They will have the freedom to compete by land, air and sea as either the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy. Whether they choose to play the role of a rifleman crawling through the trenches, a steel-fisted tank commander, or a dog fighting ace pilot, gamers will have the power to rule the battlefield.

“Battlefield 1943 is going to change consumer expectations of what a downloadable game can be. By offering Frostbite’s next generation destruction technology with a full Vehicle Warfare FPS multiplayer experience at a mere 560MB, Battlefield 1943 sets a new standard,” said Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943. “Our goal is to blow people away with a fully accessible, retail-calibre game for veteran Battlefield fans and shooter fans alike to enjoy for only £9.99.”

For more information, go to www.eagames.co.uk orwww.battlefield.com/1943. Or follow us on Twitter athttp://twitter.com/OfficialBF1943.

The game will be available on the PC in September.
