Press Release

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Atari, one of the world's most recognized videogame publishers and Cryptic Studios, the acclaimed developers behind City of heroes, City of Villains, Champions Online and Star Trek Online, announced today the development of Neverwinter for PC. Neverwinter is a new online roleplaying game based on Wizards of the Coast's global property Dungeons & Dragons and the beloved city of Neverwinter.

Once a bustling location, Neverwinter has faced a great many disasters in the past hundred years. Rule of the city remains unclear following the unfortunate demise of the last Lord of Neverwinter and factions still battle for dominance after the all-consuming Spellplague took a high toll on the population. Even Neverwinter's dead are beginning to rise from their graves and march upon the city they once called home.

"We're beyond thrilled to develop a brand new version of Neverwinter. It's been years since the original became a gaming icon and we're honored to work with such a great franchise," said Jack Emmert, COO of Cryptic Studios. "We've been working closely with Wizards of the Coast and R.A. Salvatore to create an authentic D&D adventure filled with compelling fiction and exciting gameplay."

In Neverwinter, players choose to become one of five classic D&D classes and team up with friends or computer-controlled allies to form five-person co-op groups. Players also create their own storylines and quests utilizing an extremely user-friendly content generation system, tentatively codenamed Forge.

"Wizards of the Coast is excited to invite millions of fans back to Neverwinter with the launch of R.A. Salvatore's Gauntlgrym," said Liz Schuh, Brand Director for Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast. "And we're excited about the prospects for great digital gaming experiences based on this epic world."

Neverwinter for PC is scheduled to release in Q4 2011 and is part of a multi-platform event, including a book trilogy from New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore and a tabletop roleplaying game from Wizards of the Coast. Book one in Salvatore's Neverwinter trilogy, titled Gauntlgrym, releases on October 5 of this year and lays the groundwork for the Neverwinter storyline. The novel previews the settings, characters and monsters from the PC game and details the events that lead up to this highly anticipated PC gaming experience.

Cryptic Have Released A New Trailer For Star Trek Online

Cryptic have released a new Star Trek Online trailer. the trailer focusses on the Klingons, their thoughts on the federation...and the Federations destruction. all the footage appears to be from the game, with the first have being from cut scenes and second half being in game action. there is an error with the trailer as they call the Klingon vessels War Birds and not Birds Of Prey. there's no word if this is a known error, or actually what they are now called.

Cryptic Have Revealed A New Federtaion Starship Class In Star Trek Online.

http://media3.startrekonline.com.s3.amazonaws.com/img/ships/discovery/sto_shipoftheline_discovery_092209_01.jpg

Cryptic have revealed a new Federation Starship Class in their upcoming MMO Star Trek Online. The Discovery Class is an evolution of the Intrepid Class of which U.S.S Voyager is the most well known vessel. the vessel is designed for "long exploration missions"1, "fleet support or solo patrol vessel"2.

Like the Intrepid class, The Discovery Class features Variable-Geometry Pylons which are designed to improve engine efficiency. a new addition are the class's Warp Foils. these are designed to improve stability during high Warp or whilst the ship is using Transwarp Conduits. these Foils are being studied as to whether they will be added to other classes in the future.

The Class is not the most powerful in the fleet, but it makes up for this by having "...sensor arrays are state-of-the-art and can identify weaknesses in enemy ships, locate and track vessels or even detect some cloaked ships."3 it also have other improvements like an improved Tractor Beam and Deflector Array.

The vessels are equipped with Holoemitters throughout the ship, and feature the Astrometrics that the original Intrepid class U.S.S Voyager created.

Star Trek Online Vigilant Class Revealed.

Cryptic have revealed a new Starfleet class for Star Trek Online. The Vigilant Class is an evolution of the Defiant Class, and like the Defiant class "the Vigilant is designed for one thing: combat"1
This ship is really only built for one purpose, to fight. it's weapons "can be boosted for a massive attack against a single enemy, or configured to fire at multiple opponents"2, but the article hints that the ship isn't as customisable as previous ships revealed as the only possible upgrade mentioned was Quantum Torpedoes.
In the article, they hint towards what other uses the class may have in the game. "It is ideal for pursuing raiders or defending a larger vessel..."3, to "protect convoys in contested areas or track pirates to their bases."4

New Klingon Ship Revealed In Star Trek Online

Cryptic have released information regarding a new Klingon ship for Star trek Online. The Vo'Quv class is " the ultimate weapon for a new Klingon Empire."1
Continuing the games theme of ships being able to be used for multiple things, this ship can carry lots of troops, it can carry alot of cargo, and it can help to re-build a fleet.
The ship can also launch fighters to attack, or use its tractor beam to hold a vessel during an attack, or just use its numerous omnidirectional weapons to do the job.
The vessel will probably be a high end ship and could be fairy numerous in the game as the article says "The KDF is assigning its most decorated captains to Vo'Quv ships, and many admirals and generals have claimed them as flagships."2

Star Trek Online Update - Excalibur Class

Cryptic studios have unveiled a new starship for Star Trek Online. this time they have taken the iconic Constitution Class, USS Enterprise and USS Enterprise A for example, and modernised it to create a cruiser that's able to fill a variety of roles for Star Fleet in the 25th century.

Following previously announced vessels this is also designed to be very modular, a way for them to explain why the player can customised their vessels whilst keeping it a part of the Star Trek Universe. because of this, it is more versatile than a ship designed specifically for science or battle.

Due to it's versatility, they explain that its used alot for cargo runs and resupplying, perhaps a hint of missions in the game, and also able to help evacuate civilians. in battle, they say when talking about its Warp Core, "...transfer power to damaged ships or extend its shields to protect an ally without impacting its own defenses or systems. Engineers on an Excalibur-class starship can reroute that power to boost its tractor beams, allowing it to grapple enemy ships that could easily break away from lesser vessels..." perhaps hinting at control schemes, being able to mange power from one thing to another.

They finish off the article by saying ""We can send her anywhere and she can do anything," said Graarvin Narl, primary designer of the Excalibur class. "The Excalibur will carry Starfleet into the 25th century, and she'll do it with style." suggesting that this will be a fairly common class, differenced by the user picking different modules for it.

Star Trek Online Update - Type VII Commercial Labratory

Cryptic have shown a new vessel in Star Trek online. unlike the other vessels they have shown, this one is neither Starfleet or Klingon. the history of the vessel "...this class of space vessel has been copied and modified by so many different races..." leads me to think that the vessel is a type you'll regally come into contact with in the game. the history also says "...it is impossible for Starfleet to provide specifics about the capabilities of any particular Type VII vessel." paving the way for the game to use them in a varity of different ways.

They warn, that despite the vessel being designed for science, " ...On Stardate 84072.55, the U.S.S Trieste recorded an incident where the S.S. Trialas, a Type VII vessel registered out of Galador II, successfully evaded a group of Nausicaan raiders by hiding in the corona of a star." and even the standard vessel "...is equivalent to a Nebula class starship, and most Type VII vessels have been further modified by their crews to specialize in a specific area of research."

it's clear that in the game, these vessels are not to be under estiamted. whether they are going to good or bad in the game, i imagine they will be both. "Starfleet's recommendation to captains who encounter a Type VII Commercial Laboratory is to perform a standard sensor sweep of the vessel and attempt to discern its capacities and use. A standard exterior does not indicate a standard interior."
