Sony Online Entertainment - HP Launches A Print On Demand Service That Allows Users To Create Custom Prints of Shier MMO Characters - Press Release

Sony Online Entertainment has launched a service, in conjunction with HP, which allows users to order prints of their MMO Characters from some Sony Online Entertainment Games. The service will go live later in the year, where the player can access it from inside many games like EverQuest, EverQuest II and Free Realms.
The Service will use the current Station Cash system that Sony Online Entertainment games use for commerce, and a in-game or web based client that takes the player through the process step by step.
Sony Online Entertainment will also use the service to offer limited edition prints from games like The Legends Of Norrath. The Aim is for merchandise like Art prints, Posters and more to become more available.

Press Release

LAS VEGAS, June 29, 2009 – Following the Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) Fan Faire event June 25-28, HP today launched an innovative print-on-demand service for Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) gamers. The HP print-on-demand technology will allow players to view, create and purchase custom prints of classic characters, imagery and scenes from SOE’s various fantasy worlds, games and artists. The service, which will be accessed directly from the online games, is scheduled to launch later this year in EverQuest®, EverQuest® II and Free Realms™ .

“There is a significant opportunity among SOE’s gamers to provide personalized and customized offline souvenirs from the games and fantasy worlds they love,” said Rohit de Souza, Vice President and General Manager, Retail Publishing Solutions, Imaging and Printing Group. “We believe this program is a first of its kind in the MMO gaming segment and demonstrates the wide range of opportunities available for delivering custom print-on-demand services.”
“This unique service allows players to create their cards during an online play session then, though HP’s state-of-the-art print-on-demand service, we’re able to provide ‘offline’ access to online content to create a whole new interactive experience,” said Christopher Sturr, Director of Corporate Strategy Sony Online Entertainment. “We’ve been impressed with the customization and personalization capabilities offered by HP and are excited about the value this service will bring to gamers.”

How it Works
Through the in-game Station Cash® commerce system in SOE’s games, players will access the Marketplace and choose from a list of select art images and sizes. A simple in-game and/or web-based interface will walk players through the entire process from the initial order to purchase confirmation, without ever closing the game world and/or current game session.

For the initial launch of the service, SOE will debut 10 art images from the Legends of Norrath™ series. The companies plan to feature and debut new prints, limited edition collector’s prints and select prints from top game artists throughout the year. Ultimately, SOE and HP plan to offer players the ability to personalize and customize their own art prints, posters, and other merchandise using their avatar, screen shots and artwork.

Disney - Toy Story Mania and G-Force to Feature Stereoscopic 3-D Gaming - Press Release

Disney Interactive Stuidos have announced that the upcoming games G-Force and Toy Story Mania will both have stereoscopic 3-D features. These two games are the first to fully feature stereoscopic 3-D. both games allow the user to choose whether to turn the stereoscopic 3-D on or not, with both games coming with 2 sets of glasses.
G-Force is set for a July 21st release on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, whilst Toy Story Mania is set for a Fall 2009 release on the Wii.

Press Release

BURBANK, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Jun 29, 2009 Three-dimensional experiences are taking over the film experience at movie theaters in 2009 and Disney Interactive Studios is leading the way in video games by introducing innovative stereoscopic 3-D features in two of its premier games this summer. G-Force and Toy Story Mania! both feature revolutionary innovative experiences using 3-D technology and are the first games for next-generation systems to fully feature three-dimensional stereoscopic technology.

G-Force and Toy Story Mania! allow the player to choose to turn on special 3-D features in the games while wearing the enclosed 3-D glasses. Using the anaglyphic 3-D glasses, players will see the action extend forward from their television screens in a three-dimensional perspective while playing the games. Two sets of 3-D glasses will be enclosed in each package for players to experience visuals that seem to pop out from their television sets. The glasses enable both players to experience 3-D during a two-player Toy Story Mania! game or for an accompanying family member to view that perspective in G-Force. Both standard video game 3-D graphics and the stereoscopic 3-D experiences are offered in the games and can be changed by the player.
“Three-dimensional technology drives the future of entertainment and Disney Interactive Studios is leading the way in video games,” said Brian Leake, vice president of technology, Disney Interactive Studios. “The stereoscopic 3-D innovation in G-Force and Toy Story Mania! adds to the already fun video game experiences for a wide audience and extends the gameplay by creating entirely new options for players.”

Rob Neuman, a leading expert in 3-D technology and supervisor at Walt Disney Feature Animation, consulted on the 3-D effects in the G-Force video game with Disney Interactive Studios and developer Eurocom. Neuman has advised on the 3-D aspects of numerous Disney animated feature films.

“Like the 3-D effects in some feature films, the goal for adding 3-D in G-Force enabled the two miniature creatures – guinea pig Darwin and housefly Mooch – to appear to come forward from the screen, which creates a unique experience for the player,” said Neuman. “The dawn of three-dimensional technology in films has taken over the Cineplex and it’s obvious that video games are the next medium to see this trend.”

G-Force, inspired by the film of the same name from Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, will be available in 3-D on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system on July 21.
Toy Story Mania!, exclusive for Wii™, is inspired by the popular new four-dimensional attraction in both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Players can experience their favorite moments from the attraction in eye-popping 3-D from the comfort of their living rooms with family and friends. The popular Pie Throw game from the attraction is represented in the Toy Story Mania! training level, and five additional levels based on the attraction are available as unlockables in the game’s story mode. Toy Story Mania! will be available in Fall 2009.
About the G-Force video game

G-Force is a fast-paced action-platform game featuring a unique team of specially trained guinea pigs that use high-tech gadgets and specialized talents to complete a dangerous secret mission. Players control Darwin, the G-Force team leader, and housefly surveillance commando Mooch. Darwin and Mooch team up with the rest of G-Force to use their unique high-tech gadgets, stealth mastery, and pint-sized teamwork to save the world from a robot army of evil household appliances. G-Force features innovative gameplay with a unique sense of scale and puzzle solving that requires players to manipulate environments or enemies, including evil household appliances like waffle irons, water coolers and vacuum cleaners to complete their mission.
Published by Disney Interactive Studios, the G-Force game for consoles and Windows PC is being developed by Eurocom. Handheld versions are being developed by Keen. G-Force is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
About the “G-FORCE” film

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer brings his first 3-D film to the big screen with G-FORCE, a comedy adventure about the latest evolution of a covert government program to train animals to work in espionage. Armed with the latest high-tech spy equipment, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws. Tapped for the G-FORCE are guinea pigs Darwin (voice of SAM ROCKWELL), the squad leader determined to succeed at all costs; Blaster (voice of TRACY MORGAN), an outrageous weapons expert with tons of attitude and a love for all things extreme; and Juarez (voice of PENELOPE CRUZ), a sexy martial arts pro; plus the literal fly-on-the-wall reconnaissance expert, Mooch, and a star-nosed mole, Speckles (voice of NICOLAS CAGE), the computer and information specialist. Along the way, the G-FORCE encounters myriad other members of the animal kingdom, including pet shop layabout Hurley (voice of JON FAVREAU) and the rabidly territorial hamster Bucky (voice of STEVE BUSCEMI).

Directed by Academy Award®-winning visual effects master Hoyt H. Yeatman Jr.—G-FORCE takes audiences on a high-octane thrill ride, proving once and for all that the world needs bigger heroes.
