Backlog Conquering - Foul Play - Part 6 - Finishing the Game and Breaking it!

Welcome to Backlog Conquering.
This is part 6, the final part, of playing Foul Play on PlayStation 4.

In part 5, https://youtu.be/qRXv9-BjQzE, i had completed the fourth play leaving the fifth play. there were only 2 acts in the fifth play but as i managed to break the game, i had to do Act 2 twice. you'll see that in this video.

As i'm a big fan of the story of this game, and how it's been told, i really enjoyed that the start of this video began with a cool plot twist. more so as i didn't see it coming. what's great about it is how well it fits into the game's story and yet still be a little ambiguous. up to this point the game had been using a theatre performance to tell the story of something that had happened in the past but now the twist has happened, is this still the case? i don't want to spoil it but at the end of the video i do give my point of view.

As for how i broke the game, well it's weird because i repeated something i did earlier that worked fine but this time it didn't work and the game got stuck. it needed me to attack the boss, but i could only do so in a specific way. however, i activated my flourish (L1 Button) and i could no longer continue to attack the boss in said specific way. this meant the boss wouldn't attack me nor could i do damage to it. so to be safe i ended the act and tried again. thankfully Act 2 is just a boss battle and i did it the next time.

This has been a fun game to play. the fighting got tedious more than once, and the combo system was frustratingly unforgiving. but it oozes charm and plays into it. the artstyle, whilst somewhat simple, is bold and colorful and fully plays into the theatre gimmick of the game. it's so noticeable that i based my opinion about what happened based on it! i do recommend people try this game. i'd suggest switching the difficulty to the easiest mode so you can get to the story, the characters, and the world much quicker than i did playing it at normal.

Backlog Conquering - Foul Play - Part 5 - Finishing the Fourth Play

Welcome to Backlog Conquering.
This is part 5 of playing Foul Play on PlayStation 4.

In this part i finished the fourth but had to stop as my recording equipment seemed to be having some issues. there's some minor breakups in the footage near the end, but it should be clear what's happening on screen. It's hot here and i think this was simply a temperature issue as that was the fourth or fifth video i had recorded.

This felt like one of the easier play sessions i've had with this game. in part 4,  https://youtu.be/-ZlAxJCLM5Q, i got my first 5 star review and that continued into this video. But it's not just the game saying that i'm doing well, it also feels like i'm doing well too. it must be a combination of practice and unlocking new moves.

The story continues to be it's own unique thing but as it's started to come to a conclusion i've got more into it. again i mention how the combat is getting in the way of a fun little story. There will be a part 6 as i have the final play left and i want to know what happens.

Backlog Conquering - Foul Play - Part 4 - Finishing the Third Play

Welcome to Backlog Conquering.
This is part 4 of playing Foul Play on PlayStation 4.

In this part i finished the third play and did the first act in the fourth play. i've nearly finished the game as after the fourth play there's only a couple of acts in the fifth play.

This went really well. some new trophies were a welcomed bonus and i even managed to get a couple of 5 stars for the first time, too. at times it felt fairly easy to play. as i've gone on, i've unlocked new moves which has made the combat easier to do but also easier to manage the enemies. this meant that i was finally able to get 5 stars. the enemies themselves were a mix of easy to deal with baddies with swords and annoying combo breakers that either used tentacles or electricity.

The stories continue to be interesting and our main characters are delightful. together, those things are what's driving me forward and wanting to complete the game. i feel that, and have done since the start, the combat takes a little too long and there's too much of it. so if you try this game, go for the easier difficulty so you can enjoy the story and characters more.

Backlog Conquering - Foul Play - Part 3 - Finishing the Second Play

Welcome to Backlog Conquering.
This is part 3 of playing Foul Play on PlayStation 4.

In this part i finish the second play and start the third. Whilst i continue to enjoy being in this world and the main characters, the story is starting to be affected by the amount of fighting that seems to now be taking place. it's like the fights have broken the pace of the game. I am playing this on normal so there's a chance that playing this on easy would reduce the amount of fights and bring back pace to the story.

Whilst it is annoying, it's not enough to stop me from playing so there will be a part 4. There's not too much commentary from me in this part as i was really tired and might've even dozed off for a second or two! so it's not my best playing.

Backlog Conquering - Foul Play - Part 2 - Finishing the First Play

Welcome to Backlog Conquering.
This is part 2 of playing Foul Play on PlayStation 4.

In part 1, https://youtu.be/fLzEjnrlZks, i started playing through the first play and after 50 minutes i had finished Act 3. so the first thing to do today was to try and finish it. thankfully i did and i even got to Act 3 of the second play.

The game's charm, art style, and turn of the last century English is still fun. But the brawling sections just feel like they're a bit too long. it's not that they're difficult, it just feels like they're taking too much time to get through. i'm enjoying the story and how it's told, so for me i'd rather be spending my time doing that. the Brawling sections just feel like they're padding and not really adding much to what i'm finding interesting.

In Who's That Flying!?, you play as the Guardian of Earth. but a sudden devastating attack on earth has left you in trouble with the Galactic Council of Justice, leaving you with the task to not only defend yourself, but also save the earth. Mediatonic have released a trailer for Who's That Flying!? showing the predicament The Guardian of Earth faces as well as in-game action of him killing monsters.

Press Release

London, UK. London-based development studio Mediatonic has announced that Who’s That Flying!?, its latest title for PlayStation Portable Minis, will be available to purchase and download from the PSN store from Tuesday 12th October 2010, priced £3.99, €4.99 and $5.99 respectively.

In Who’s That Flying!?, players take control of the mysterious and powerful creature known only as the "Guardian of Earth". His steely eye and HYPER-POWERED LASER ARM have kept the citizens of Earth safe for generations (as well as proving a hit with the ladies). With all his awesome TALENT and FLAIR, surely it would be IMPOSSIBLE for a sudden and devastating invasion of colossal Doom Beasts to descend on the Earth’s cities and cause havoc without his knowledge? No, it’s not, and the fact that he was posing for photos at the time has nothing to do with it.

To save the Guardian Of Earth’s reputation, as well as the Earth itself, players must not only defend the cities from ravenous hordes of Doom Beasts, but must also defend the Guardian of Earth against accusations of gross incompetence from the Galactic Council of Justice - and this is all BEFORE players can even start to get to the bottom of just who OR what is really behind the invasion.

Who’s That Flying!? Will be available to purchase and download from the PSN store from Tuesday 12th October 2010, priced £3.99, €4.99 and $5.99 according to region.

London, UK. London-based development studio Mediatonic has announced that its critically-acclaimed PSP Minis debut, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, has been launched on Xbox Live Indie Games. The Xbox 360 version features all the action of the PSP Minis cult hit and boasts a full HD-resolution visual overhaul.

In Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, players take control of the massively awesome and super-sexy aristocratic demon known only as "The Duke" in an upwards-scrolling platformer, where chasing down giant fleeing monsters is the business at hand. By building combos to unleash increasingly magnificent finishing moves on the (most likely) guilty monsters, players can impress the Duke’s adoring fans and gun for higher and higher scores.

Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess features a full story mode, 6 unique stages, awesome animated cutscenes and an incredible soundtrack the Duke himself would approve of. With 24 levels of monster pounding justice, this is (probably) the best XNA game ever.

Originally released in April 2010, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess was a hit with reviewers across the media spectrum, picking up scores such as an 8.8 from IGN, an 8/10 from Eurogamer, Games TM and The Official PlayStation Magazine and a 4/5 from daily newspaper The Independent.

Mediatonic’s co-founder and creative director Paul Croft adds: “Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess was a huge hit for us, both with the media and as our debut on PSP Minis, so we’re proud to have launched its XNA version as our Xbox 360 debut.” He continues; “We’re hopeful Xbox 360 players will take the Duke’s plight to their hearts and will help him hammer those (probably) guilty monsters.”

Press Release

London, UK. London-based development studio Mediatonic has announced Who’s That Flying?!, its second PlayStation Minis game for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3. Who’s That Flying?! is a brand new, original IP and will be released exclusively as a download from Sony’s Playstation Network (PSN) store. Who’s That Flying?! is a side-scrolling shooter crossed with tower defence and courtroom drama, all doused in sheer awesomeness - AND THEN SET ON FIRE.

Players take control of the mysterious and powerful creature known only as the "Guardian of Earth". The announcement of Who’s That Flying?! follows on from Mediatonic’s critically acclaimed PlayStation Minis debut, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess. Both titles demonstrate the studio’s belief in creating games packed full of love, character, story and attention to detail.

Writer and designer Jim Griffiths comments: “The beating heart of Who’s That Flying?! is a fast-paced side-scrolling shooter, but we’re also very proud of the world and characters that we’ve created. Every level you play through is actually the Guardian retelling his story to the Galactic Council in an attempt to prove his innocence - with the occasional twist in the tale." Jim continues: "We feel it’s an interesting and effective way of bringing together the story and the game mechanic to make both of them feel relevant and more meaningful to the player.”

Mediatonic’s co-founder and creative director Paul Croft adds: “It’s fantastic to be announcing another title for Sony’s brilliant PlayStation Minis service. WTF was a really interesting game to work on as we tried to combine two very different game mechanics to create something truly unique. It’s quick and fun to pick-up and play and we believe it will appeal to both casual players and hardcore shmup fans alike. We’ve packed a lot of content and personality into the game and we’re really excited about the launch!”
