Sony Announce PS3 Firmware Update 4.00, Prepares It For The Playstation Vita, Out Now In UK

Sony have announced PS3 firmware update 4.00. this firmware is aimed at preparing the Playstation 3 for the launch of the Playstation Vita.
"this update will prepare the PS3 to serve as a content management device. It will allow users to copy their media content such as games, music, photos, and videos between PS Vita and PS3, back up PS Vita save data to your PS3 hard drive, and update the system software for your PS Vita system using the network features of your PS3."

Other features of this update are for Playstation Plus members
"PlayStation Plus members can now choose to enable or disable each automatic update feature
  • Game patches
  • System software
  • Recommended games and videos
  • Sync trophy information"

the final part of this firmware update, that has been revealed by Sony, is:
"New PSN privacy settings for filtering friend requests and messages"

There are typically some other unannounced features of a Playstation 3 Firmware update, like a security update. so whilst the above has been revealed by Sony, there is a chance there could be a few hidden extras.

I have downloaded this firmware update and i'm in the UK. it appears it will be rolled out across other regions today.i have found a new warning when the PS3 starts up for epilepsy, there are now mentions of the PSV, like in remote play, as well as a PS Vita Application Utility Folder.
