Sony Announce A Playstation Network Event Call PLAY Starts 9th August


Sony have announced a new PS3 Playstation Network event called PLAY. PLAY starts on 9th August and runs until 19th September in the USA and 10th August to 20th September in the UK. the PLAY promotion comes with 4 games, a 5th game will be free for people who buy the other 4 games. the first game comes out on 23rd/24th August and its Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition. the 30th/31st August sees DeathSpank: The Baconing. BloodRayne: Betrayal is out on 6th/7th September and Renegade Ops comes out on 13th/14th September. when you buy each of those games, you get PAYDAY: The Heist for free.

Each of those 4 games will cost $14.99 in the USA with DeathSpank: The Baconing. BloodRayne: Betrayal and Renegade Ops costing €12.99 and Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition €14.99. each of the games will come with a trial when they are released on the PSN.

Playstation Plus subscribers get 20% of each purchase. gamers will be able to pre-order the games from 9th August and have until 19th September to buy the 4 PLAY games. an additional gift for those who pre-order each of the games from the PLAY promotion get a free theme with each pre-order.

Comments on the EU Playstation Blog reveal this is an annual promotion, not something that will happen every year.

Starting August 10, 2011 gamers can get more action when the PLAY lineup becomes available for pre-order on PlayStation Network in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. With each pre-order from the PLAY program made in PlayStation®Store (pre-orders will be available for a limited period, see details below), gamers will receive a theme for their PlayStation®3 system. PLAY also offers gamers a separate gift with purchase for each order made throughout the duration of the program which ends on 20 September 2011. In addition, PlayStation®Plus subscribers will receive an automatic 20% off every PLAY program purchase if they make their purchase on or before 20 September 2011.

As a bonus gift, action fans that purchase all four PLAY titles in the PlayStation Store on or before 20 September 2011 will receive a PSN voucher code for Sony Online Entertainment's PAYDAY: The HeistTM, at no additional cost.

When Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition is purchased through PLAY, purchasers will be able to unlock GILL, the self-proclaimed god, without having to beat the game with every character, as day-one DLC. Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition will be €14.99 and will be available for pre-order until August 18.

August 31: The Baconing - The newest action-RPG title from Hothead Studios is the third in the popular DeathSpank series. Attempt to defeat the Anti-Spank and his army of Cyborques, before they cast an evil shadow over Spanktopia. Discover exciting new worlds and battle hordes of enemies as you search to unlock the secret within the Fires of Bacon. When The Baconing is purchased through PLAY, purchasers will receive an additional co-op character, Roesha - One Bad Mutha. The Baconing will be €12.99 and will be available for pre-order until August 25.

September 7: BloodRayne: BetrayalTM - This 2D side-scrolling platformer from Majesco Entertainment features 15 bloodthirsty levels where Rayne attempts to infiltrate a treacherous castle, take out a fiendish horde and stop an evil vampire massacre. When BloodRayne: Betrayal is purchased through PLAY, purchasers will receive a BloodRayne: Betrayal virtual item for their PlayStation®Home avatar and an exclusive dynamic theme. BloodRayne: Betrayal will be €12.99 and will be available for pre-order until September 1.

September 14: Renegade Ops - This top-down, driving shooter from SEGA features a huge variety of vehicles, guns and endless enemies. The game features Sandbox-style missions, so there are many different ways to play. When Renegade Ops is purchased through PLAY, purchasers will receive a Vehicle & Character Pack with two new vehicles and special weapons. Renegade Ops will be €12.99 and will be available for pre-order until September 9.

Bonus Gift: PAYDAY: The Heist - This gritty, first-person shooter from Sony Online Entertainment lets players take on the role of a hardened career criminal executing intense, dynamic heists in constant pursuit of the next "big score." A PSN voucher code for PAYDAY: The Heist will be provided to buyers of all four PLAY titles as a bonus gift provided they purchase the games on or before September 20, following release of the game. The game can also be pre-ordered separately starting September 21, 2011. European pricing for PAYDAY: The Heist is to be confirmed.
