Sony Announce Optional Firmware 3.21 Will Disable "Install Other OS" On Original Playstation 3's

Sony have announced that the upcoming 3.21 firmware update for Playstation 3's will remove the "install Other OS" feature from the original Playstation 3's (PS3's that look like the left model in the picture), Not the Slim Models as they don't have this feature. this update is optional, but those who decide against installing the update will not be able to:
  • Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat.
  • Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.21 or later.
  • Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings).
  • Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.21 or later.
Sony have also warned that any information on the Other OS partition on the HDD will not be accessible so users will have to backup any files before updating their consoles.

What Have You Played This Week?

Still reeling from the death of my PS3, I tried to play more games but ended up either being busy with real world things or QTE Gamers stuff. Still, a big shout out to PS3Fan-Michael who gifted me Torchlight. It means a lot to know that the site has such great fans and that they care.

Football Manager 10 – PC – I played a little more of this game. I got Annan to the second division and i'm about to start the season. Fingers crossed I can stay up.

Chime – Xbox 360 – this is a interesting game. the simple playing is fun, but it has a much deeper part to the game that makes Chime more challenging than Lumines.

Halo ODST – Xbox 360 – I've completed a few more stories in the game. ODST is starting to grow on me and i'm getting used to playing as a ODST and not the Master chief. But, the main problem I have with the game is how dated it feels. When compared to other games, playing as a ODST with its mechanics feels like you playing a last gen game with nice graphics (well not great graphics but the visor overlay is really cool)

Super Smash Brothers Brawl – Wii – I'm still working my way through the story and also trying to do the single player events. I'm also trying out the photo feature, which is surprisingly robust, and seeing what the game has to offer.

Torchlight – PC – I was gifted this from a regular to the site, aka PS3Fan-Michael. After reading that my PS3 has died, he gifted me this game so I had something to play whilst I try to get money to get the PS3 fixed. Well i've never played this type of game before and was wondering how I would like it. I haven't played too far yet, but i'm enjoying it. It runs great on my PC, and it looks great. The controls are simple and everything's clearly laid out nice, and the tips on the loading screens are very helpful. The storys ok so far and the battles are simple. The loot is fun and I can't wait to get deeper into the game.
