* a further email with Pom Pom Games has made clear that a future patch will be released to fix this issue.

Woo, well happy. it's nice when i ask a company a question that they reply.
it's not some block buster news i know, but those who read the weekly "What Have You Played This Week?" will know that i do love this game, will know that it matters to me, and it's something i wanted to know.
and besides...baby steps, lol.

What Have You Played This Week?

Killzone 2 - PS3 - i finally moved onto the single player part of the game, and really enjoying it. interesting battle scenarios, good level design, and wow...the graphics are still really good.

Peggle - 360 - The game that broke my previous 360 finally got played. not much to say, it's Peggle, it's addictive and i'm really enjoying it.

Shadow Of The Colossus - PS2 - finished the game, and soo proud that i played it. such an interesting game, whether its the graphics, music, story or gameplay. none of it disappointed, and the ending was superb.

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core - PSP - only done a little bit more of story and side quests. i find it's a good game to play when you have some free time to fill.

Street Fighter IV - PS3 - as much as i want to be good at the game, i suck. i practice, i play the arcade on easiest, and yet i still suck. but i'm not going to give up yet!

Astro Tripper - PS3 - was surprised that it had a update, but welcomed. still stuck on the last boss of the game...i'm further along killing it than i ever have been, but i'm finding it tough...but i've come so far and i won't be beaten. still a great cheap game.

Feel free to comment on anything i've played and what you yourself has played over the last week.

Star Trek Online Update - Oslo Class

Cryptic have updated their site with a new StarFleet Vessel, the Oslo Class.
the vessel looks very familiar to the Norway and Akira from Star Trek, but the site also mentions that it's similar to the Zephyr Class which is not a known class of Star Trek and is most likely a new Class for Star Trek Online.
Cryptic say the reason for the similarities is because "Starfleet Corps of Engineers championed a plan that called for modular ship designs, with components that could easily be switched out or replaced."

in their talk about the ship, they let slip a possible parts of the game mechanics, "The modular design allows ship's crews to be able to make more repairs in the field and enables salvaged components to be reused on a variety of ships. An added benefit of modular construction is that starships can be modified for specific missions or to accommodate crew needs." This backs up the customisation that the game allows of ships, giving a legitimate reason why it's possible, but it also hints at salvage missions, being able to salvage parts from a battle site.

This particular class is known as a Heavy Escort Class, limited medical facilities and scientific as well. it's not built for sustained attacks, but it's new weapons provide alot of clout. again, Cryptic might have let slip another game mechanic "...it will often work in concert with other ships that have improved sensor arrays and laboratories. Being able to coordinate with an engineering vessel will keep the Oslo fighting for longer than it could without such support, making it an ideal vessel for battle groups and fleet actions." perhaps hinting at how battles/missions can work with other people, being able to use their ships either to help another ship or to be that fighter amongst the science vessels.

My 360 Replacement Experiance.

It only took a week, but i got my 360 back. i must admit i'm impressed with the speed it took, only a week. it would've been here yesterday but UPS were delayed a day.
of course this may not be the same for everyone, thinking about it the main reason for such speed would be that my console had no repairs. it was a very early model and i doubt that the parts for it exist, and they probably decided that it would be simpler just to sent me a new one.
i have to say that i do no have one of the new chipsets. i'm a little disappointed, but i understand why; the 360 i sent was a original one, which means that i have a original power brick, the new chipsets use a different power brick...and unfortunately older bricks do not work with the newer models, which means it's cheaper to send me a a newer version of the original model.

getting it replaced was a interesting experience. it's all done online now, even trying to phone in tells you to go to the website. the website relies on you being online, with a live account and being registered, which thankfully i am which made it very simple, fill in the boxes, say whats wrong. if you have a RROD, the site automatically adds 3 years of warranty which should make the process free. the emails are a little confusing, they cover all bases by sending a email with all the information possible which can make it difficult to pick out your own info, and you have to provide your won box. thats the only issues i have, everything else went smoothly.
i'm impressed, but i guess they have had alot of experience, it was smooth, didn't take long, and relatively out of my hands. i'd say good overall.

GDC - 2 New Consoles enter the market?!?!?

it's early days at the moment at GDC, mostly it's been new trailers, like Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 but there was suprise news as two new consoles have been announced!

The first is "OnLive". This could singlehandly change the future of gaming. i know it's a bold statement. it may be a bold statement, but there is nothing like it and it could bring gaming to everyone with a phone line. comparisons to youtube are just, all the games, processing, are done online.

for those without a PC, this box is all you need. as all the work is done online, a console sized box is not needed, all it needs to do is connect to a controller, a tv, and the internet. for those with a PC, they offer a in broswer experiance (much like the new quake online) requireing only a small download.
You internet connection is the only limitation for the device. the slower it is, the lower the resolution you'll see.

it is a subscription based service, but the list of publishers already linned up for the service is impressive. EA, Take-Two, Ubisoft, Eidos, Codemasters, Epic, Atari, WB and 2D Boy to start, and it takes very little effort to add more.
More on this will come later, read Joystiq or IGN articles for more information.

The second console is Zeebo. whilst not as revolutionary as OnLive, is still a important announcement. it's not going against the Wii, 360 or PS3, but it is aimed at the emerging/poorer markets.

the console is less powerful than the Wii, but like the Wii it's a descision which keeps the cost of the console low, and makes it less complicated. it's a download only serive, games being downloaded over the 3G network in a bid to reduce piracey. brazil is the first market to see the Zeebo, at a price around a third less than the Wii ($199 compared to $1000) before beind released India, eastern Europe and China (by 2011).
so far around 300 games are planned for the console, costing between $5 to $15, coming from a vairty of publishers big and small.
for more infor, Gamasutra has a indepth article and engadget has a brief overview.

What Have You Played This Week?

So what have you been playing this week?

Killzone 2
- PS3 - i finally leveled up all the way. i haven't got all the medals yet, but it's great playing really long matches being able to try out all the different classes. still no played single player!

Football Manager 09 - PC - got AFC Wimbledon promoted from conference south to conference premier. still having fun, it's a great game to play in the background whilst doing other things.

Shadow Of The Colossus - PS2 - finally got a chance to play the PS2 classic, the must own game, and i'm not disappointed. the graphics are lush, the gameplay interesting, intuitive, and different. i'm enjoying playing something new and different, just a shame i couldn't play it when it came out.

not played much this week, been busy with other things, but looking forward to my 360 being returned, and resistance retribution finally being sent (thankyou play.com!)

Twitter Issues

Apologises for the lack of Twitter news yesterday.
i use a program called AlertThingy, it's a small program that has usually been reliable. however, yesterday it decided to play up and it now looks like the majority of the twitter messages i sent from it never made it.
i'll keep an eye on it today, and if there's problems with it i'll try another program to make sure the issues won't last for long.
if you've got a program you can recommend (it needs to be able to sent tweets and convert URL's, with a program like TinyUrl, into something much smaller) please leave a message in the comments

What Have You Played This Week?

What have you guys/gals played this week?
Feel free to add your thought about it, like whether you enjoyed it, had a frustrating time, as it would be interesting to know. for example, this week i've played...

Killzone 2 – PS3-Still no touched the single player yet! I can't pry myself away from the multiplayer. Slowly moving up the ranks, still having fun. What's good is now, the people ranked highly are playing very well, the matches are hard/challenging and fun.

God Of War 2
– PS2/PS3 – Found a old save on my PS3, so thought i'd finish it. It is really tough, the save was near the end of the game. I admit I died repeatedly and in certain places I got really frustrated, but I was soo happy when I finished it. It still is good, looks good, plays brilliant...and a interesting story plot at the end. Really looking forward to the third one now.

Ratchet And Clank
– PS2/PS3- I made some real progress until my PS3 was unable to load the save file. If I had to guess it is because the disc was used when I got it and that could have a bearing, still disappointed though. I was really enjoying the story and getting into it when it failed to load.

Football Manager 09
- PC- I've been playing these games since Championship Manager 3 and just have a love for them. I'm currently playing with AFC Wimbledon near the end of my first season, top of the league of course.

Noby Noby Boy
– PS3 - I did my bit for Girl this week, as well as getting the final trophies for the game. My concern now is, without the goals of the trophies I don't really know what to do with it. The only thing left is to get girl to Mars, but I doubt i'll be playing it much more.

Peggle – Xbox360 – Yep, this is the game that broke my 360. I played maybe 5 minutes of a level before it all died. Annoyed at dead 360, annoyed that I can't play the game.

Unreal 3
– PS3 – I downloaded the massive patch for the game to see what changes had been made. I hadn't played it for ages, and I was impressed by how good it still looks and plays, I had some real fun playing it again. Hopefully I can get some online matches and get through the story again (trophies are not retrospective...got to do it all again)

My 360 Has Red Ringed!

Guess what happened when i tried to turn my 360 on today...
yep, i got the 3 red rings of death.

My 360's new graphic issue trick

The vid below is what i have taken of my 360 freezing on me, having a interesting graphic issue and now i'm scared to put it back on.

i blame Peggle, but in the end...i still win. i have a PS3!

New Zero Punctuation: House Of The Dead Overkill

New Zero Puncuation this week, and what a shock...a game he likes...on the Wii!!!!!
if you don't belive me, watch and see.

A Stark Difference Of Opinion....At IGN

1 site, 1 game, 2 reviewers, 2 different scores.
IGN UK and US have both reviewed the PSP title Resistance Retribution, and given it 7 and 9.2 respectively. fair to say, the UK review has had it's fair share of criticism.

It may seem strange that one site decided to review a game twice, but it needs to be understood that IGN is a massive company, and a game as big as Resistance Retribution would be reviewed in all the countries IGN is, for example there should be a Australia review for this game to come at some point. but, when there are two reviews so stark from each other, at what point does this multi review system become a farce?

Most review sites will say that they rarely change a score/ re-do a review, but it does happen. internally, they have measures in place to stop a review going out if its surprisingly low, or goes against the popular opinion of the site. so how did this review go out? and why hasn't it been taken down?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and in this case it looks like his opinion was 7.0, but when you read the complaints of the UK article, you can understand why there is such a "uproar" over the review. complaints like, unnecessary comparisons to the PS3, a lack of understanding of features of the PSP (like the save feature when you turn of the game). being honest, with such short fallings of the article, IGN should think about taking the article down and perhaps getting someone else to review the game as i do think the game has not received a fair review. Here are the two review scores, see the difference for yourself. (UK then US)

6.5 Presentation
Cut-scenes are technically very competent, but they’re hampered by a bad script, bad acting, and they last too long.

7.0 Graphics
The game looks as good as anything else on the PSP, but the murky brown palette is a little uninspired.

7.0 Sound
It sometimes sounds tinny, but generally Retribution’s soundtrack is rousing and atmospheric.

7.0 Gameplay
It can feel a little simplistic at times, thanks to the super-powered auto-aim, but there are enough twists and turns to keep things reasonably interesting.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
You can go back and replay unlocked missions for extra skill points and intel, but the real draw is the multiplayer, which is excellent.

    7.0 Decent OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

9.0 Presentation
The movies, dialogue, and Grayson journals connect you to this character in a way that makes you cheer for him. The setup is a lot like the last Syphon Filter, but it's still great.

7.5 Graphics
The CGI movies look great, but everything else is your standard definition for "good" on the PSP. The scope is big and the enemies are varied, but I never felt impressed.

9.5 Sound
Man, the orchestra is out of this world. When you're battling a gigantic Titan and the music kicks up, you can't help but get excited. The voices are great, too.

9.0 Gameplay
The weapons are fun, the ease of cover is great, and it's a wonderful ride. I wished it could've been more challenging at points, but the online and replay options help that issue.

9.5 Lasting Appeal
There are three ways to play the solo story, Skill Points to unlock, Intel to find, 12 multiplayer ranks to achieve, and 22 multiplayer medals.

That's incredible. 9.2
Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Any thoughts on this review, or thoughts on sites reviewing the game multiple times?

What Have You Played This Week?

What have you guys/gals played this week?
Feel free to add your thought about it, like whether you enjoyed it, had a frustrating time, as it would be interesting to know. for example, this week i've played...

  • Killzone 2 - PS3-Still Epic, but still playing the multiplayer, not even touched the single player this week. i really enjoy the multiplayer, more so than any other shooter i've played online. i'm moving up the ranks, got sentry turrets now. i've also noticed that it's surprising fast and frantic now, people are really good and everybody dies fast...i guess that adds to it.
  • Folklore - PS3- Finally finished it. and wow, what a great story, full of twists and surprises, it was surprisingly engaging. i do think that this game was missed by many people, and sure it's a early ps3 game and has some issues, but the story, gameplay and graphics make it worth wild. but trust me it can be very hard sometimes, but it never stopped me.
  • Ratchet And Clank - PS2/PS3-i loved the ps3 game, but never played the ps2 ones, so i bought this second hand a while back and i'm now playing it on the ps3. it looks good, plays great, fun weapons, good story...exactly what you expect. however the ps3 doesn't play it well and it has plenty of slow down issues, but not enough to stop me from playing it.
  • Puzzle Quest Galactrix - PC- i loved the first game, i got it on psp and 360. so when i heard that this was out i quickly got it on the PC...and 5 hours later and 3AM in the morning...i can safly say it's addictive and fun as the first, but slightly more complicated. my only complaints are all the jumpgates you have to unlock, and the ship moves with the mouse when all i want is to click where to tell it to go. this could take a long time before i'm done with this game

Is the PSP 4000 or 2 in Home?

i just sent a message to ps3 fanboy about this very topic, but thought i would share my thoughts on here also.
it is fairly certain that there is a new psp coming, whether it is the 2 or 4000 model. so i was browsing the interwebs looking at peoples ideas for it when i stumbled upon this
this looks awfully close to the home menu thing, and it made me wonder. could the home menu thing be the psp 4000 model?
the previous home device was the original psp, and what better place to try out a new design than with people who use playstation stuff in an enviorment which they would use it often.
of course this is just conjecture, but i wouldn't be surprise if the new model looked awfully simular to that home menu device, or the photoshop.

pictures from these links respectivly.

What Have You Played This Week?

What have you guys/gals played this week?
Feel free to add your thought about it, like whether you enjoyed it, had a frustrating time, as it would be interesting to know. for example, this week i've played...

  • Killzone 2 - ps3 -epic, but surprisingly i'm playing the multiplayer more than the single player. that is mostly cause i was in the beta, so for a short period i have more experiance than most people playing it and therefore i'm kicking ass, lol. i don't have a single complaint about the game yet. multiplayer is pretty perfect.
  • Folklore - ps3 - its surprising me how into this i'm getting. i've not played most cause of killzone 2, but the story is good enough for me to put down killzone and play this. at the moment, i don't know how it's going to end and i want to play to find out.
  • FF VII Crisis Core - psp -i have a old save i went back to, i've never completed the game. graphics are soo impressive and the fmv's are soo cool to watch. but again, i've not really played much of the story as i've been doing alot of the side missions, bite sized and all soo good and useful. but i will go back to the story.
Anyone else, what have you played this week?
